All five species of Northern Pacific salmon can be caught on Kodiak Island. They include King Salmon, Red Salmon, Chum Salmon, Pink Salmon and Silver Salmon. Additionally, Dolly Varden Char, rainbow trout, and steelhead present numerous angling opportunities. Salmon fishing usually begins in early June with Kings and Reds, and will continue strong into mid-October with Silver Salmon. Resident or "feeder Kings" can be caught trolling off the coast year round.
We fish various styles depending on the visiting angler's experience and desires. Spin fishing, bait casting, egg drifting, and fly fishing are all recognized as acceptable techniques in our local streams and rivers. If you are novice or expert we can assist you in the catch of a lifetime! The island is literally and truly a fishing paradise.
Fishing for halibut is equally as exciting as fishing for salmon. These fish range from 20 to over 300 pounds and can be caught via pre-arranged charters. Kodiak seas are rich; anglers sometimes bring in ling cod, gray cod, rockfish, and sea-running salmon as they venture for halibut from May to October. Giant halibut are known as "barn doors" and who knows; maybe yours will be the new one on the record books!
